When you grow indoors, you cannot rely on natural weather, but you have the advantage of being able to control it. If there are two critical factors that directly affect the health and yield of your plants, they are temperature and relative humidity, regardless of the cannabis growing systems you use (soil, coco, hydroponics...) and the space you have chosen to cultivate.
Mastering these two parameters is easier than it seems, and it is a strategy that influences the flavour, aroma and potency of your buds. In this article we are going to tell you why it matters, what values to aim for, how to detect problems and how to master temperature and humidity control at each stage of growth to avoid problems and get the most out of your harvest.

1. Why are temperature and humidity so important?
Cannabis plants breathe, sweat, eat, grow and fight pathogens depending on the climate around them – everything depends on the environment. In this respect they are very similar to us; we also have temperature limits; if it is too cold, some pathogens can attack us, and if it is too hot our body dehydrates and starts to suffer. Plants experience something similar:
- If it is too hot, they stress, slow their metabolism or even suffer burns.
- If there is too much humidity, the risk of fungi such as powdery mildew or grey mould skyrockets.
- If the environment is too dry or cold, transpiration is blocked and they fail to absorb nutrients properly.
- If humidity is very low (<40 %), transpiration slows and bud quality suffers.
Moreover, relative humidity and temperature interact: warmer air can hold more vapour, and vice versa. Understanding these mechanisms helps you avoid surprises and make preventive decisions.
In summary: if you control temperature and humidity, you have a much better chance of having healthy, productive plants with quality buds.
2. Ideal temperature and humidity parameters by growth stage
There is no single perfect value. Each stage of cultivation requires different conditions. Here are the recommended ranges based on Growlobby experience, we have spent many years researching what the ideal climate is at each stage of cannabis cultivation and this has certainly helped us refine things considerably. At the end of this section you will find a summary table with ideal temperature and humidity for each growth stage.
- Germination and seedlings: during the first stages of growth, the ideal temperature ranges between 22°C and 26°C. These temperature ranges promote germination and the development of strong seedlings. In this same period humidity should range between 65%-90%.
- Vegetative growth: in this growth stage plants need slightly higher temperatures, between 20°C at night, up to 28°C during the day. Humidity during this period should range between 60%-75%.
- Early flowering: when plants enter the flowering stage, it is important to reduce temperature to around 20°C to 26°C during the day. During the night it helps to lower that temperature a bit. Humidity should move between 50%-60%.
- Late flowering: when your buds are already developed and starting to form well, it is time to lower temperature and humidity a bit more. Take a look at the
Stage Day temperature Night temperature Relative humidity Germination / clones 24–26 °C 22–24 °C 60–90 % Vegetative 23–28 °C 20–23 °C 60–75 % (start high, reduce by 5 %) Early flowering 20–26 °C 19–23 °C 50–60 % Late flowering/bulking 19–26 °C 18–20 °C 40–50 %
Remember:
You don't need to hit the values exactly, but you do need to keep them within range. Sudden swings are more dangerous than a slight constant deviation.
3. Warning signs and how to respond
A grow with poor climate will warn you – pay attention to the signals your plants are sending:
- Very high humidity >60 % during flowering → risk of grey mould, powdery mildew, fallen or "soft" leaves.
- Very low humidity RH <35 % → dry leaf tips, curled leaves, slowed growth.
- High temperature >30 °C → burnt leaves, airy buds, weak smell.
- Low temperature <15 °C → slower plants, nutrient absorption block, purple on stems.
The key? Observe your plants every day and react in time. And if you use thermohygrometers with probe, even better.
Practical tips:
- Adjust the extractor if it gets too hot or humid.
- Adjust temperature by adding ventilation or local heating.
- Adjust Relative Humidity with a humidifier or dehumidifier.
4. Tools to help you maintain ideal conditions
You don't need to build a laboratory. With a few basic and cheap accessories you can keep everything under control:
- Digital thermohygrometer: essential to know what is happening at all times.
- Extractor and fans: renew the air, stabilise temperature and avoid hot spots.
- Humidifier or dehumidifier: depending on the region you live in.
- Climate controller: a grow cabinet or room well-equipped allows you to automate everything.
At Growlobby you have many options: from basic meters to Pro controllers. If you're not sure which one you need, ask us.

5. Advanced tips and advice
Here are some tips from grower to grower:
- If you grow in winter, put the light just before sunrise: this way you avoid the cold in the coldest hours.
- Water when lights come on: avoid night-time humidity.
- If you have humidity problems at the end of flowering, increase extraction and lower the humidifier power.
- NEVER wet the leaves if you are in flowering.
- Ventilate the cabinet well between waterings: this helps lower Relative Humidity without changing anything else.
- Don't rely only on the room thermometer: place the probe at leaf tip height.
Advanced tips
- Use a ventilated reflector if you work with HPS: it reduces direct heat.
- In late flowering, lower RH to 30–40 % for denser buds.
- Choose Indoor LED in small rooms: they generate less excess heat.
6. Conclusion:
Climate matters and it can be controlled.
Having a grow with ideal conditions is not a matter of luck. It is a matter of observing, adjusting and having the right tools.
At Growlobby we help you create a stable, easy-to-maintain environment with no complications. Because when the climate is right… everything else becomes much easier.
