Description
PHYTOcontrol Phytoseiulus Persimilis is a predatory mite used in agriculture for ecological pest management, specifically to control the spread of red spider mite (Tetranychus urticae) in ornamental plant crops, vegetables and fruit trees.
Characteristics of PHYTOcontrol Phytoseiulus Persimilis:
Phytoseiulus Persimilis is a tiny predatory mite that does not have a negative impact on plants or humans, as it feeds exclusively on mites and red spider mite pests.
The adults and nymphs of Phytoseiulus persimilis actively seek out and prey on all developmental stages of red spider mite and mites they feed on (including eggs), by sucking the fluid contents from their bodies. Phytoseiulus persimilis has a very rapid development rate, faster than that of its prey. They lay eggs within colonies of pest mites, from which larvae hatch. When they develop into protonymph and deutonymph stages, they begin searching for prey, and upon reaching adulthood they display high predatory activity.
The survival and longevity of these mites are negatively affected by heat and dry conditions, so it is essential to maintain relative humidity above 65% to favour their development.
To preserve product viability, keep the container in a horizontal position at a temperature of 8–10°C and ensure the cold chain is not broken during transport and storage. PHYTOcontrol Phytoseiulus Persimilis should be used within 48 hours of receipt and must be kept away from direct sunlight and pesticide residues, avoiding unventilated enclosed areas.
When to apply PHYTOcontrol Phytoseiulus Persimilis:
Application of PHYTOcontrol Phytoseiulus Persimilis is recommended when an increase in red spider mite population is identified in your crop. It is advisable to use it as soon as the presence of mites is detected on the underside of leaves or signs of plant damage are observed, such as yellow spots and loss of vitality. This product shows greater efficacy in high temperature and low humidity conditions, which favour red spider mite reproduction.
What dosage to use for PHYTOcontrol Phytoseiulus Persimilis:
The amount of Phytoseiulus Persimilis to apply varies depending on the severity of the infestation and the size of the crop. In general terms, it is suggested to release between 2–15 ind/m². If you find a focus of red spider mite, release 20–50 ind/m² directly on the affected area. The recommended dosage is indicative and will vary depending on the crop and pest infestation level. To determine the exact dosage required, it is advisable to consult a biological control professional.
Before opening the container, it is important to place it in a horizontal position and distribute the mites onto the leaves or in containers, prioritising areas where red spider mite infestations are located. It is recommended to use this predatory mite in areas with moderate temperature and humidity conditions.
