PowerZyme by Hesi

Roots renew their root hairs every few days, and the old ones stay in the substrate. That dead matter reduces available oxygen in the root zone and feeds fungi and bacteria. Hesi's PowerZyme works right there: it's a biotechnological extract of enzymes from the Trichoderma fungus that breaks down the cellulose in those remains. It's part of the Hesi Fertilisers range.

Why use PowerZyme in the substrate

As it decomposes, cellulose becomes sugar molecules that both the plant and the micro-organisms in the medium can use. The substrate stays cleaner, with better oxygen availability at the root and less dead matter on which pathogens can thrive.

The difference is most noticeable in small pots, where substrate volume is limited and remains accumulate faster. Being a booster, it provides no NPK: it works on the medium, so it complements the feeding schedule you're already using and works well with root products like the Root Complex from the same brand.

How to use PowerZyme

The dosage is 2 ml per litre of irrigation water, or in other words, 20 ml per 10 litres. Hesi suggests it as a product for continuous use throughout the entire cycle, with one or two applications per week to keep the medium clean.

It works with any substrate, whether you're growing in soil, hydroponics or coco fibre with a specific fertiliser like Coco Hesi. A practical note: the enzymes are biologically active, so prepare only the water you're going to use in that watering and avoid leaving the mix prepared for days.
