Some genetics a seed bank keeps for itself. The Mendo Breath Auto IBL from Atlas Seed is one of them: it's not for sale. For this project, Atlas made an exception.

A genetic that wasn't for sale

Fast Buds tells the story in unusual detail. After meeting with the Atlas Seed team and exchanging work on genetics and the future of autoflowers, they agreed on a collaboration: Atlas provided their Mendo Breath Auto IBL seeds —an IBL, that is, a stabilised inbred line, not a commercial hybrid— and Fast Buds did the selection in their own facilities.

From there came the donor plants, which were crossed with the best specimens from the latest generation of Frostbanger Auto. Through the Mendo Breath line comes the GMO Auto, which is a direct parent of it, so the garlic and fuel undertones run in the family.

Why these two were chosen

It wasn't from a catalogue. The Frostbanger Auto is the autoflower with the highest potency evaluated at the Autoflower World Cup, and the Mendo Breath Auto IBL was the one with the best result in the laboratory tests of the American Autoflower Cup in California. Both chosen by analytics, not by reputation.

The cross declares 26-31% THC —a range, not a "up to" from a brochure—, with 500-600 g/m² indoors and between 80 and 220 grams per plant outdoors. The plant stays at 70-120 cm and needs 9 or 10 weeks from seed. The flavour profile is fresh, spicy and sweet, far from the candy that dominates the category.

It's an early release, and it's worth knowing

The bank itself says this and it's worth repeating here: this is an early-release F1. The seeds have passed germination checks, but the variety is still undergoing internal testing and the figures above come from initial observations, not from several complete cycles.

In practice that means two things. You could be among the first to grow a cross that hardly anyone has seen yet, with the hybrid vigour that usually comes with an F1. And the numbers may adjust once there are more cycles behind it.
