Leca or Expanded Clay is a very lightweight ceramic material with multiple applications in cultivation, particularly as a drainage medium in the bottom of pots and as a substrate for hydroponics.

It is a highly versatile material that you can completely clean and reuse between crops to reduce the transport and waste costs usually associated with soil or coco.

Usage recommendations:

  • If you are going to use it as a hydroponic growing medium, it is essential to wash the clay thoroughly until the water is clean and transparent, then stabilise the pH to 5.5 by soaking for 48 hours.
  • For drainage, it is not necessary to wash and stabilise the pH.
  • You can mix Expanded Clay with the substrate to improve its oxygenation and moisture retention properties.
